Who's really benefiting?: Amazon and Kohl's

Amazon and Kohl's partnering?!? A brilliant partnership or a hindering Amazon's reputation? Amazon plans to "open connected home showrooms in 10 stores in the Los Angeles and Chicago markets."  These showrooms will be staffed by Amazon associates and will give the consumer a Smart Home Experience. Devices such as Echo and Kindles will be sold in these showrooms. Kohl's will also be processing returns for Amazon on current items. Kohl's may be carrying the weight here but Kohl's foot traffic will increase which will potentially increase sales. Both Amazon and Kohl's are benefiting from what the other has. Amazon gains physical store space and Kohl's gains traffic.

Do you think this just a partnership or will a merger occur in the near future?

From a digital marketing perspective the partnership between Amazon and Kohl's is a gold mine. Amazon has capitalized in online sales while Kohl's is a tradition brick and mortar store. While Kohl's needs serious help attracting online consumers, Amazon can help create traffic into Kohl's store and Kohl's can promote Kohl's.com and apps that may increase sales. The Smart Home Experience will bring in an affluent consumers willing to spend money on leisure and luxury benefiting Kohl's.

Kohl's may be able to capitalize on this partnership by promoting through Amazon.com and within the store.

What do you think Kohl's can do digitally to attract consumers with the help of Amazon?

Coca-Cola's Happiness Machine

Have you ever seen the Coca-Cola happiness machine? If you haven't, watch this . For those of you who've seen it before let me remind you that it's a coke machine on a college campus distributing a lot of coke bottles so you can share them with people around, flowers or pizza. Coke's mission is "to refresh the world in mind, body and spirit. To inspire moments of optimism and happiness through our brands and actions." Coke creates an experience when anyone and everyone purchases a coke. Coke has branded itself to make people happy and create experiences that make people happy. What soda to you get when you throw a party? What drink do you ask for at a restaurant with your whole family? What mixer do you buy when you hang out with a group of friends after work on Friday? You buy a Coke. All those events create...

Come Back After the Holidays... Ya Hear

What brings customers coming back again and again? According to Accenture's "Personalization Pulse Check" report, 56% of people prefer shopping at retailers that recognize them by name. With the holidays coming up quickly, there is no time to lose customers to a poor experience. Instead of of pre-assessing each customer by their persona, it's time to get to know each customer personally to create a relationship between customer and retailer. A good retailer should create moments that incentive purchasing action not only during the initial interaction but also motivate the consumer to come back and purchase again. A good retailer should be all knowing. Retailers should be aware what products they have in store and online, what products are out of stock and when those products will be restocked. Retailers should also be aware of what the consumers wants but where does this purchasing journey begin? One way it may start is on social media. What if a consumer tweeted ab...
