After my high school cheerleading career ended and I was
transitioning into college I found myself gaining weight while I was not
changing my eating habits?!? I was asking myself “how could this be happening
to me?” I have always been fit and my weight had always been consistent. I
started thinking it was my laziness. It would strike in the middle of the day
my freshman year and I would find myself done with classes meeting friends at
the dining hall and not the gym. A light clicked above my head and… Bingo! I
stopped being active. I had always cheered at least 3 days a week if not 5
throughout high school juggling school, school cheer, and competition
cheerleading. I never had to work out to be fit. My life had a workout plan
built in to cheerleading practices. I didn’t know the first thing about
building a workout plan. Which days do I work on chest/shoulders and which days
do I work on abs/legs? I was clueless. I resorted to an old school method of
staying in shape, running. I didn’t need classes, ellipticals, treadmills,
ropes, weights or heavy machinery. All I needed was a road.
I started running in my neighborhood. Each day I would run a
little further than the last and eventually found myself so far that I didn’t
want to run back. This situation only happens once when you have a busy schedule.
I promised myself that I would be smarter about my route in the future so I
download MapMyRun by Under Armour. I started the app and it calculated my
distance, speed, calories burned, average time and elevation. I could see my
data from each specific run in graphs and tables or compile data from previous
workouts. From the app I could post my runs to all forms of social media accounts
including Twitter and Facebook. When I finished a run and viewed my data it told
me the ranking of my latest run compared to the rest of my runs. I followed my
friends and family so my feed consisted of my runs and my friends. I followed
some famous runners that helped keep me motivated when I was feeling lazy
again. I posted pictures to each run for my followers and to remember where I
had gone that day. MapMyRun tracks you while you not only run but also swim,
walk, bike and hike. I fell in love with how easy MayMyRun was to use and how
connected I was with all these other people around the United States trying to
stay healthy. When I went to go buy a pair of shoes that I could run in I found
myself in the Under Armour section and not Nike.
Under Armour successfully marketed to me as a consumer not
by a television ad or a newspaper article but by creating a tool that I use
almost everyday. Under Armour targets multiple audiences using MapMyRun.
Potential audiences include people, like me, who are getting back in shape,
people training for a race and people living a healthy and active lifestyle. By
creating a free useful app, Under Armour connects you with like-minded people working
for a common goal. MapMyRun creates posts to easily share on Facebook and Twitter
to continue the conversation about Under Armour and personal success stories. On
top of connecting with people you already know and talking about the active and
healthy lifestyle, you can sign up for competitions among thousands of people
who also are using MapMyRun. MapMyRun hosts tons of competitions each month and
if you win you can receive prize giftcards, free Under Armour gear and trips to
participate in races in the United States. MapMyRun created by Under Armour
links people from all over the United States to talk about Under Armour’s
brand. Users of MapMyRun have positive success stories which increase brand
positivity, brand loyalty and brand awareness across the U.S.
